Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
In Partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and Virginia CASH Campaign
From January 25, 2010 – April 15, 2010 The Improvement Association will be offering free income tax preparation primarily to residents of Sussex, Surry, Brunswick, and Greensville/ Emporia.
WHO is eligible?
Families with income up to $44,000 may qualify for free service. Individuals with income from stocks or business income more than $5,000 or with an anticipated loss should consult a paid preparer.

PROJECT DISCOVERY is a state-funded, drop-out prevention program. It provides potential first-generation college students with career awareness and post-secondary education options as a means to ending the cycle of poverty for current and future generations. A college education or career is a tangible way that students can reach their full potential as effective, contributing citizens in the community.

Project Discovery conducts workshops on Goal Setting, Effective Study Skills, Test Taking Skills, Banking, College Preparation, SAT, ACT, PSAT, Character Building, Career Options, Budgeting, College Admission Process, Relating to Others, Choosing A College, Financial Aid Awareness, Guidance Information Systems, Writing Skills, and Life Planning. The youth are taken on various college tours to enlighten them and expand their awareness of education options. The program also provides SAT fee waivers, ACT fee waivers and College Application fee waivers.
