Mission Statement

The Improvement Association is the catalyst that enhances the quality of life in communities through comprehensive initiatives advocating change and empowering people to become self-sufficient.

The Improvement Association is an anti-poverty, non-profit organization founded in 1968.  To execute its mission to empower people to become self-sufficient, The Improvement Association provides quality outreach services and mobilizes community resources within our service areas.  The agency serves as the Community Action Agency for the jurisdictions of Sussex, Surry, Greensville, and Brunswick Counties and the City of Emporia.  Limited services are also provided in the Cities of Hopewell and Franklin, as well as Southampton and Isle of Wight Counties.
